HELP CURB CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN
Chew: NGOs And Police Should Work Hand In Hand

PETALING JAYA: “I hope NGOs and the PDRM can co-operate further to help and curb the crimes against women,” said Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun yesterday during the opening speech of the Say ‘No!’ to Rapist Seminar which was jointly held by the China Press and Selangor’s Biro Beliawanis Wanita MCA.

Chew, who is also the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, said the police also act as the educators in the society and thus it is important for the NGOs to work with them to help educate and raise the awareness within the society on the issue of rape.

The seminar, which was held in the Petaling Jaya campus of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman here, was attended by over 50 students of the university.

“Have a sense of prevention in our subconscious mind. Don’t just sympathise but instead, ask what can be done!” said Supt. Ong Chin Lan during her speech as one of the speakers of the seminar.

The Deputy Director of the Sexual and Abuses Investigation Department from Bukti Aman’s D11 unit also said she wishes to continue to propagate the use of chemical castration and risk assessment on the rapists despite the NGOs claimed it was cruel.

An interactive session was held as part of the seminar by All Women’s Action Society (AWAM) which includes monologues performed by its members.

For further enquiries on the issue or consultation, the public can contact the Beliawanis MCA, 03-21618044, www.beliawanismca.org or AWAM, 03-78774221, www.awam.org.my.

haha..this,is one of my assignments(journalism's) actually..i'm not so confident this time..hai..anyway,a good experience attending it...hehe..i have known the facts presented but just a clarification thingy from it...

because of limited length,i didnt wrote too long of it..so here's some details:
chew actually said that the police carry a vital role of social educator in that sense and she got the idea from her trip to texas..there was a special room with a police, cousellor, and a social worker there to care for the 'survivor'..(no,do not call them victims)

and malaysia now have a department on under 18's welfare..(erm..forgive me,did it have not before?woops..)

but then, there is still alot for the goverment to improve on protecting victims and so..especially from the legal or legislative aspect..and on punishment side..

personally,i think that the chemical castration could be a working way..well,it serves it without really hurting it right??...

Supt. Ong Chin Lan actually has a degree of criminal psychology if im not mistaken..(cool...)

she shared cases of raping within the family..(urgh...) and whatever kind of nonsense they gave for reasons to rape..swt..i actually asked her why did it take so long to take a statement, then she answered that it need to be detailed and so..because it involves every legal aspect..and the consequences is huge..

there are 4 types of rapist:
control style-traditional male dominant thought rapist
rational selection-picky ones(nyeh)
regularly ones-?? bohsiah one..
aggressive-split personality usually...

and three factors of it:
chance-of victim
-of rapist
enviroment-of victim
-of rapist
desire

and she asked us all to be careful and use our senses well to prevent and flee in time..
she mentioned that there should be a better judiciary system in order for everything in her suggestion to work, such as the chemical castration(because it needs dactors' supervision for years and gain full control in it..FYI, the chemical castration is not permanent..just temporary and have no side effects after it worn off or even during medication except that during medication the prisoner could not have erection)

but the rep frm AWAM have a point too, because they may use other object than their penis to 'rape', and the legal definition of 'rape' was concern of the penis and vagina but not else..

there came a dirty thought..
.
.
.
.
.
.
.'epar'..

mwahaha..gal 'epar' guys..woops..devilish me..nyeheheh..

there was also the info for us on victim care centre, child video recording suite in the supt's plan..and witness support system too..

crap abit- my friend actually suggested i go for psychology(dont be stereotyped!!!)or legal(whoa..)...nyheheheh...

but i really dislike uncritical thinking...really...but you know, sometimes its just...human..foolish human..we're not god or what...im not perfect either but i'm trying to be..the belief in me that be good to everyone!

and one big main thing is,sexy attire doesnt NECESSARILY evoke or cause the case..statistics proves it!

and actually that night, she showed two clips of a group of malay boys 'get on' with a malay girl..the girl did not stop them but kind of..enjoy..EEWWWW.....and she said that that's why in cases one need to prove the 'force'...

and that's not all, there were BOYS in the seminar!!oh well, let's take it as a biology lesson then..ergh..

and to tell you another fact(if you didnt know, that is) is that most of them who commited the crime is not strangers to the victims!! so stop being in only one direction now!

and the fact is,most of the cases committed in places OTHER than those dark alley and abandoned building!

and when a girl says'no', it is certainly 'no', not 'yes' you stupid..see the context!respect!*grump* i cant believe someone is so ...urgh...

and yes, *you* can control the desire!! dont give other lame excuses!it just like peeing!
(the boys confirmed it k? there should be more of the boys join the seminar huh...)

for those (boys) of you who've attended it, good for you!!^^

and no!there is nothing wrong with the courting couple if they dont or didnt 'do it'!
there goes the fact that a large portion (60-80%) of the cases were -daterape-
where *he* seduces and using tricks and excuses to be *too close*.
the rep from AWAM ho yuk ling did demonstrate how to avoid unforutnate events in pub(though i dont like going there and in fact, did not ever go):
-order bottled ones so that you can recapand *he* cant spike your drink easily
-do not attend any unclear origin's drinks, drinks you've left just a second ago..you might want to bring it with you to the dance pool
-hold your drink close to you, not holding it out unconsciously for *him* to spike it!!

then, fact of dating:
-it's common to date
-common to accomodate each other(gifts and all)
-may tend to be blided by the aura of romance
- but it should be healthy and NO ONE should be pressured in the relationship!

and for knowledge, anyone who had sexual contact(ie intercourse etc)with an under 16 female is deemed to the 'statutory rape'..

hah!

and do you know what is a healthy relationship?here it is:
-respect your feeling, opinions, belief and the person
-is confident and trust you,not over possesive
-is ok with rejection
-praise or constructively comment but not putting you down
-tries ot work out arguments by talking it out, discussing and listening
-does not threaten
-supportive
-does not hurt him/herself if rejected
-honest
-interested with the person, not the physical features

nyheheh..

woops..

and why the rapist rapes? mostly it is to do with the traditional social built of domination of men in this society..social and education have really much to do with this!

so, rape is-not love, not sex,is a crime and crime of violence, using sex as weapon

it is advised that a rape survivor** do not wash herself after the incident, have a medical report done at once, report to the police, have support from the ones you trust, and do not take it as your fault if being rape!*grump*

so stop discrimination on any of it, practice RCCM:
- respect, communicate, consent, and be mature!in order to achieve a healthy relationship.
