so the other day this jackie came up to my place. after chee cheong fun, we went west to Sitiawan to visit the new mother and daughter- Ivy and Leah XD
first stop was to buy the kong peang (literally earthen jar biscuits). anddddd…forgot the picture..LOL! but you can always google it i know. #lazyblogger bought some with onion fillings and some others with pork fillings. yum!
oh and that is when, we realised Edward’s car was left running and unattended at the road side. =.= #onlyinmanjung hor?
second stop was eung zhao mian xiang (or was it? basically fook chiu red wine vermicelli), oh jian (clams omelette) and fook chiu fish balls (with pork fillings!!!!! )
slurrrp!!
super love the pork filled fish balls!! <3
a rather different oh jian from the penang ones. a crispy variation. (which also means tonnes of oil @@) with the kampung koh chili sauce! edward says it is so good you can eat it on its own!
i suppose not many people know about this? the red wine and the vermicelli itself is unique to the fook chius. the whole dish, from the making of the wine to the vermicelli and then to the cooking takes so much patience, care, and effort! it’s all about the details!
and that, suffice to tag #onlyinmanjung .
that was when i thought, ‘ok so what’s next? the beach? the war vessel?’ then Ivy said ‘coconut jelly’. @@
didnt take any photos for coconut jelly as..well..partly, i forgot..also, i was so full with the wine @@” but i tasted just two spoonfuls..so refreshing! (and the girls were eating like no tomorrow while i just watched..LOL! “you can only get it here!”)
straight after that, we went on to get the ‘really nice’ fried chicken in ayer tawar, thanks to Ivy the Princess of Fried Chicken.
getting their fried chicken fix! those bags were chicken feet with black vinegar! tempted to buy but alas no.
and we headed to Ivy’s grandparents’ house to enjoy, or savour, the fried chicken, (which, i only tasted two small pieces. still very full!) on the floor..haha!
with ais krim potong (traditional popsicles) as bonus.
which is also where, we come to these semi-quotable quotes:
(referring to the flies which wont budge an inch from our food)
edward: wah the flies here’ like gangsters ah!
jackie: notorious!
ivy: yah no manners!
it’s their world . @@
oh and of course, obligatory photo of the Princess of Fried Chicken with her highness’ Fried Chicken (check the heavenly light on top of her highness’ head XD )
Princess Ivy: Always sniff before you eat it! (jackie: and she ate with all the ten fingers! )
and we went back to Ivy’s place and played with Leah.
yes i’m the photographer of the day. haha! oh the paparazo days!
